As my first submission this year, and after a zillion hours of work, I bring again a Green Lantern themed piece. As I have said before, I love comics, and Green Lantern is one of my fav subjects as the characters are so full of color, and their energy suits, well, it's like drawing nude characters xD, so they're great for anatomy practice.
This piece started as a sketch of Boodikkah, the fierce Green Lantern, that I made out of boredom. I liked how she came out so I finished her. Then, same thing happened with Carol Ferris, I made a sketch of her while she was possessed by the power of the Star Sapphires, and again I liked it, and finished her. Then another day, I drew Princess Iolande, and I liked her and also finished her.
I have always liked in the comics, that sector of universe where there are several batteries of power, for each of the colors of the Emotional Spectrum. So I decided to use it as background for the picture, that depicts the moment when Boodikkah, Carol and Princess Iolande are sent by the Guardians in some top secret mission to such a place, that is always shrouded in mystery...Hot-headed Boodikkah didn't like the idea of working together with a Star Sapphire, any bit at all, so the tension between her and Carol would not take long to turn into a mess, if there wasn't someone who would keep those emotions at bay, and gentle and wise Princess Iolande, the voice of reason, would be the ideal Green Lantern for such a task. Iolande's task during the journey wasn't easy, as it shows in her face, as well in Boodikkah's, whose frustration for not being able to tell Carol a few things, seems to amuse Carol herself. They're arriving to the place where they must complete their mission, and so they must put aside their differences, at least for the time being.
I liked how the Batteries came out, as well as the three girls. I am not entirely satisfied by the background rocks, I wish I could have given them a greater sense of realism, but honestly, I wasn't willing to invest anymore time in this piece. It was supposed to be ready by December 2012 or January, but I just couldn't get it done back then.
Additionally, this is a downsized version of the original picture, 50% of the original size, the original picture is huge. Although I don't like how the background resulted, I really liked the girls, so I decided to add it to the gallery. Maybe I will later try to improve the background rocks, but that will be in a while.
By the way, I know many will be thinking: "Where's Carol's mask?"...Don't worry, I included it in the original picture, so a slightly different version of the picture with Carol wearing her mask will be added soon. Same thing, for Iolande's cape.
